Welcome to Leah Land!
  APRIL ISSUE

Leah MeyerhoffHello . . .

There are many new and exciting things to report
, starting with "A Day in Leah Land" - the retrospective of my short films in Boston, which was especially cool considering I am way too young to be having a retrospective. I also went to Austin for SXSW and ended up having a blast. No less than a dozen friends had films in the festival, I got to hang out with Jonathan Caouette's son who is the most incredible kid ever, and there was a guy walking around in a giant stuffed unicorn outfit. I kid you not. It was like a fantasy sequence from my own movie. Meanwhile, I have done a couple of new interviews, my short films continue to travel the festival circuit and I am teaching a master class about just that later this month. But perhaps the best news of all is that it is finally spring!
xoxo,
Leah

Master Class

TischI am teaching a master class at NYU about how to be successful on the film festival circuit, from the moment you finish post until you finally secure distribution. Topics to be covered include: festival submission strategy, inquiry letters, fee waivers, deliverables, clearances, press kits, press releases, self promotion, DIY marketing, social networking, distribution strategy, legal contracts and self distribution. Come check it out!

Retrospective

Boston Underground The retrospective of my short films at the Boston Underground Film Festival last week was a lot of fun. I have never seen everything projected chronologically before so it was interesting to discover patterns and reoccurring themes that I never knew existed. I also met some fantastic new filmmakers and Unico had several crazy adventures along the way.

SXSW Recap

SXSWLast month was my first time at SXSW and I couldn't have asked for a better initiation. There were unicorns everywhere! Seriously. With Unico as my guide, we blended right in. We reconnected with lost acquaintances, bonded with new friends, and of course saw a ton of movies. We partied in enchanted forests, dined in trailers full of cupcakes, and danced until dawn. It was a magical southwestern adventure indeed.
