Welcome to Leah Land!
MARCH ISSUE |
|
Hi . . .
So it has been yet another busy month in Leah Land. I interviewed half a dozen casting directors for Unicorns and am finally ready to get the audition process rolling. Casting is one of my favorite parts of filmmaking and I can't wait to get started! Meanwhile, I have begun working with a new lawyer named Victoria Cook (who reps fellow NYU grads Jim Jarmusch and Nicole Kassell) and is completely incredible. I am also working as a consultant for OurStage and will be heading to Austin for SXSW next week. Aside from all the films, I am really looking forward to seeing my new favorite kid band Care Bears on Fire. In other news, I rematriculated at NYU, voted for Hope, and watched the utterly-predictable yet somehow-still-entertaining Oscars. But I think my favorite part of last month was the total lunar eclipse (of the heart). Until next time...
xoxo, Leah

SXSW
|
|
I keep saying it is time to jump off the film festival bandwagon and then I keep climbing right back on again. So it looks like I will be heading out to SXSW next week for a couple of days.
- A film I worked on briefly called Bi The Way (directed by Brittany Blockman and Josephine Decker) will be premiering March 8th. Check it out if you can.
- Several of my other friends' films are premiering as well, including: Beautiful Losers (Joshua Leonard), Stop-Loss (Kimberly Peirce), Baghead (the Duplass Brothers), Goliath (the Zellner Brothers), My Effortless Brilliance (Lynn Shelton), Nights and Weekends (Joe Swanberg), Intimidad (Ashley Sabin) We are Wizards (Josh Koury) and Woodpecker (Alex Karpovsky).
- A couple of friends also have shorts in the festival: The Execution of Solomon Harris (Wyatt Garfield), Glory at Sea (Ben Zeitlin), 34x25x36 (Jesse Epstein) and Let's Get Down to Brass Tacks (Aaron Katz). Finally, I am excited to see Crossbow and Spider again, two of my favorite shorts from Sundance this year, as well as the features Choke and The Order of Myths, which I missed in Park City but have heard great things about.
- I will also be consulting for OurStage again, shooting a promotional short with Matthew Lessner and helping promote my friend Arin's new festival From Here to Awesome.
- If
you or anyone you know will be out in Austin that week, please drop me a line. There is always time for rock shows in between all of the screenings!

Eternal Flame
|
|
Welcome to a world where mermaids dance with octopi, fire breathers rule the night, and the Statue of Liberty knows how to sing. Girls are buried up to their necks in sand while boys do back flips and dazzle dancers perform a puppet show without strings. A circus-themed burlesque music video for Joan as Police Woman, Eternal Flame is the ultimate fire hazard.
