Leah Meyerhoff was born in San Francisco and attended high school in Berkeley, California. She graduated with Honors from Brown University with a Bachelor’s degree in Art-Semiotics. She spent the following year studying film at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she also taught at the undergraduate level and founded an art gallery. Leah is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Film at New York University. While at NYU, Leah directed TWITCH, a short film portraying a young girl's irrational fear that her mother's disability is contagious. A Slamdance Grand Jury Prize winner and Student Academy Award finalist, TWITCH has screened in over 200 film festivals worldwide, including Cannes, Palm Springs, Chicago International, Woodstock, Clermont-Ferrand, Brooklyn International and Milan International. TWITCH has won over a dozen international awards and was picked up for distribution by IFC, Reelport and Skandinavia TV. Leah has since completed several music videos. TEAM QUEEN, a gender-bending, fire breathing, post-punk music video for Triple Creme, has won numerous awards and is now airing on LOGO. ETERNAL FLAME, a burlesque music video for Joan As Police Woman, continues to screen at festivals and was recently picked up by MTV Europe. LIKE OUR FATHERS, for Brooklyn rock outfit Luff, is currently in post-production. Leah has received press coverage from The New York Times, The Hollywood Reporter, Film Threat, The Boston Globe, Flavorpill, The San Francisco Chronicle, and numerous other publications. She was also profiled in the docu-drama series Film School, which continues to air on IFC. Leah has taught film courses and lectures at New York University, Brooklyn College, New York Film Academy and Polimoda in Florence, Italy. She also works as a film festival consultant and recently served on the narrative juries for Slamdance and Hollyshorts and the programming committee for Rooftop Films. Leah is currently in post-production on her first feature film UNICORNS, which tells the story of an awkward teenage girl who escapes to a fantasy world when her first romantic relationship turns abusive. A Sundance Lab finalist and IFP grant winner, UNICORNS is supported by an Emerging Narrative Filmmaker Grant from IFP and fiscal sponsorship from San Francisco Film Society. |
